Galbani Santa Lucia Burro Classico - Italy

Galbani's butter offering! Perhaps the best known Italian meat/dairy brand outside of Italy, their product line wouldn't be complete without butter!

We personally know Galbani best for its prosciutto and authentic mozzarella that we can access at most supermarkets around the globe.

These guys are a huge conglomerate and make everything from salami to cheese to desserts to yoghurt and everything in between. Their website (in Italian) has many fantastic recipe and cooking ideas so if you're looking for Italian inspiration, this is the place to go!

The only thing we missed when doing a basic research was their policies on sustainability. With such a huge operation based on animal-based products, we'd hope that they would be working towards more sustainable or regenerative practices, especially since they're such a huge and diversified company. Always room for improvement, right?

Butter Evaluation

In which we discuss Galbani's unsalted butter.

We trust Galbani Santa Lucia to know what they're doing when it comes to butter. They do very good products, reliably and consistently and that's exactly what we got with this butter.

It's a beautiful light white with fait creamy coloured notes and is quite solid, even at room temperature. Though it doesn't show in the picture but it's beautiful and glossy rightly proud of itself.

On the nose, it is fresh and milky with a pleasant touch of sweetness.

In the mouth, though is where this one is a little unexpected. Italians expect their butters to be clean and discrete and milky, which is exactly what this one is. The fat is clean but has very sweet notes coming through - they're a delight to the palate! It clears nicely to milk with some gentle lingering of texture and flavour on the palate. A very enjoyable butter!

It's a shame they don't do more varieties!

Final Rundown

This is a very good little butter. What it lacks in oomph it makes up in milky sweetness and enjoyability. This is a great butter to be enjoyed with charcuterie... almost like they designed it to compliment the rest of their product range!

For as huge as their product range is, they only do one type of butter - not even a lactose-free version. Surely a company so large and well diversified could apply that variety to butter too... :)

Colour: Milky white

Aroma: Sweet milk

Taste: Clean fat with milky sweet notes
